What is it with Bombadier and air conditioning? After the debacle of sweltering Victoria line trains a few years ago (still uncomfortably hot even after the 'tinkering',) the new London Overground 710's
have 'intelligent' air conditioning and lighting we are told. Which seems to mean that the carriages are freezing on a normal British summer day and the lighting is on all the time. Uncomfortable for passengers and hardly a tick in the energy conservation box.

Can you first of all define what a "normal" British Summer's day is? Normal so far this year has ranged from about 39C to hail. We had to switch from our planned camping trip in Scotland to a hotel at the start of the Summer holidays it was so cold at night.

Can you also define what a "normal" passenger is? At work, one of my colleagues comes in wearing the tiniest strappy dress and protests about the temperature. Other colleagues are in suits and ties and we're roasting sitting on memory foam seats if the temperature is anything above 18C.

I'd much rather be sitting on a refreshlingly cool train with low humidity than a warm moist train.

LED lighting might be on, but the intensity will be controlled so it's brighter at night than daytime - but never switches off completely.

The air conditioning in the 'S' stock works fine...
...and light emitting diodes aren't going to overheat the train.

This is an interesting point, because I would maybe take the opinion that at night it might need to be dimmer, thinking about how eyes adjust to harsh changes in light levels? I mean it might be dim during the day, brighten up in the evening and come back down at night. Would be interested to know if anyone has a definitive answer?
