I was just looking around on Real Time Trains and it appears that direct trains between Bolton and Newcastle have been inputted for some reason. Sadly it does seem likely this has been done in error. This Blackpool North to Newcastle setup seems to have been inputted for every Saturday between the 17th of October and the 31st of October.

It seems possible to buy tickets, even advance purchase tickets, for these services. What would happen if someone bought a ticket for these services from a TOC in good faith in good faith and the chosen direct service turned out to not exist?

Thank you in advance.

Why assume this is a mistake?

On a quick check on RTT, there appear to be no trains across Ordsall Lane Jn in any direction on those 3 days and various RRBs.

Looking a bit further, TPE Scots run North of Preston only with RRB non stop to Man Airport.

Combining services across Victoria is a pretty logical move IMO.

No mistake. TP Newcastle services are running to from Blackpool for a few weekends In the next couple of months. Great for people wanting to take up TP'S Club 55 deal. Did a booking couple of weeks ago for a passenger wishing to travel direct from CLS to bpn.

TPE are quite good at keeping services running where they can during engineering work, like when Man Airport was closed they ran the ex Blackpools to Wilmslow instead of terminating at Man Pic/Ox Rd. when the WCML to Edinburgh and Glasgow was closed they ran to Scotland via the ECML extending some of the Newcastles

I believe these were planned before the Farnworth Tunnel issues blew up.

I would question if they are likely to operate at this time.

As far as I'm aware the delay to Farnworth Tunnel presents no reasons why weekend running shouldn't resume on schedule in early October, but on the same reduced capacity basis that has applied to weekday running since May, using the narrow former down bore. Somebody would have to design a temporary weekend timetable.

The weekend closures through the summer have been needed for works at many other locations on the line, which as far as I know are more or less on schedule.

Once Fillie breaks through there will probably have to be further weekend closures for track alterations and signal testing, but that is now unlikely to be as early as October.

Accordung to TPE they're to Blackpool and from Manchester Victoria. How does that work?
Services between Liverpool Lime Street and Newcastle will operate between Manchester Victoria and Newcastle only.

Alternative First TransPennine Express services to / from Liverpool Lime Street are available as advertised in the current timetable

NOTE: Southbound services from Newcastle will be extended through to Blackpool North via Bolton and Preston (2 services combined).

According to RTT all run through. The Blackpool bound trains have a bit of a wait in Vic, the Newcastle ones about 3 minutes.

However a little research suggests that the timetable may need further adjusting as the delay to reopening Farnworth tunnel hasn't been accounted for. I suspect the Newcastle bound trains may suddenly have a 55min stop at Vic. Which might upset a few punters....
