Thanks I was just concerned it may only be the return portion of off-peak returns. Is it different as it's a Pte ticket?
The PTE-priced element doesn't come into it. Break of journey is always allowed unless the ticket validity indicates otherwise.

An Off Peak day return between Ashton - Bromley X has restriction code ND - this is printed on the ticket and nre.co.uk/ND provides details; no BoJ restriction is listed.

On the other hand, an Off Peak return between Ashton - Chester has restriction code 8A - nre.co.uk/8A again has the details, this time indicating that BoJ is not permitted on the outward portion.

Just a reminder that evening peak restrictions apply weekdays 1601 to 1829 except bank holidays. These apply to joining any train including changing trains rather than starting your journey so may affect a break of journey.
