Does anyone know of a book that talks about how to make a steam loco boiler or firebox? I would like to see a kit of parts (not fitted together but ready for assembly). If it also contained a description of how the parts are made, and how they are then put together, that would be very helpful too. If you know how much the book is likely to cost, that too would be useful

Thanks for any help

No. I mean a full size boiler, for an A4 or a Coronation or a Black 5, or whatever. When the big railway works such as Crewe or Doncaster built a steam loco, how did they make the boiler and firebox. The normal diagrams or photos I see are always of a fully assembled boiler. What I am after is how do they make the various parts, the tubeplates, the stays, etc.

Try Youtube for how a steam locomotive is constructed. This video visits the boiler shop after around ten minutes

The video above is a good description, albeit a short one, of the boiler. The fitting of the tubes starts at about 15m 50s.
Thanks to 341o2 for the video.
