I have the dubious pleasure of having to go to Bognor on Tuesday night.

Leaving London at 16:00ish and returning from Bognor around 22:00.

Gold Card and Groupsave numbers.

The return leg looks painfully slow leaving me stranded in Victoria unable to get back to Theobalds.

Have I missed any tricks?

Victoria line to Seven Sisters and a 279 or N279 will get you back to Waltham Cross which is the closest I found in a quick search. Gets you home at 01.43 mind. Try playing with the TfL journey planner from Victoria.

Poor Bognor, you're obviously not a big fan!

I was assuming I would miss the last northbound tube

Last Northbound Victoria line from Victoria is 00.35 according to TfL website so you've got a sporting chance.

There are two options at quite different price points.

£17 v £30! Yesterday they arrive within six minutes of each other?

Also if I was to buy a through ticket on the return leg to Seven Sisters even though it would cost me more would this serve as good insurance should the train be late into Victoria?

Has anyone got an idea on the price difference?

Bognor services split at Horsham in the down direction. The 6 mins is the difference between getting the Front Portion of the train (to Portsmouth or Southampton) and changing at the next stop Barnham for a shuttle service to Bognor or getting on the rear portion which calls at all stations down the Arun Valley direct to Bognor Regis (some trains omit stops at Christs Hospital and/or Amberley).
You haven't given enough details but at a guess the difference in price is most likely that advance tickets are available on one portion but not the other.

Hi, the return leg at 22:00.

One arrives at Victoria at 00:13 and the other at 00:19 however the 6 minute saving will cost you £13 extra

The outbound i was lead to believe was a direct train, on the return there are three connections to make!

Ah - the slightly faster itinerary involves a change on to a "Gatwick Express" service at Gatwick, and the £17.80 Super Off-Peak Single from Bognor Regis to London Victoria is routed "NOT GATWICK EXP", so isn't valid on it and the booking engines are offering you the £30.80 Anytime Day Single instead.
