Blyth and Tyne Railway

Hi everyone. Im new to the forum, so please bear with me if I make a mistake !
I live close to newsham on the Blyth and Tyne Rly, and have a question regarding train operations. It would appear that the North Blyth to Fort William Alumina Tanks trains have to ' run around ' at Newsham, and then head back North. Is there no facility at Bedlington station to do this ? Thanks if anyone can shed some light on this.

Hello to a fellow Blyth-dweller!

As you state, at present the alumina tanks run-round at Newsham South to head north to Fort William via Bedlington and Morpeth.

There is the facility to run round at Bedlington, and this used to be the way this things were done (in fact, if you look at Bedlington South SB on Google Earth, you can see a train in the sidings!) However this involves using the Furnace Way sidings which are owned by EWS (who used to have the Alcan traffic.) As the contract's now with GBRf, these can't be used, and the next available run-round point is Newsham.

There are two sets of mains crossovers at Bedlington, but there are a few issues using these to run round a set of wagons - the signalling isn't in place and the orientation of these crossovers would make this a complicated manoeuvre.
