Wow, looks as though they've done a cracking job on that 1st gen DMU ! Wouldn't mind going for a spin in it.

Is that the one that normally resides at the EKR ?

It's on loan from the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway.

I think I may have seen that DMU at the Ecclesboure, they have some 1 st generation green dmus there too.

I hope to revisit the bluebell on a steam day later this year.

Yep.

To set the story this isn't a diesel running day as such, but the DMMU is actually on hire to the Bluebell Railway for 1 Month whilst the line is closed for engineering works between Horsted Keynes and Sheffield Park. Happily the reason for the hiring of the DMU is that because the works are including both Freshfield Bank and the southern end of Horsted Keynes, this reduces run round capability and there's no proper servicing for Steamy stuff at HK so... The DMMU was hired from the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway to operate these services - it's actually a hybrid of Class 101 E51505 and first built Class 108 E50599 and im glad to say / be told that it's already proved very popular, hopefully paving the way for future occasions on the Bluebell - The proposition of a Thumper still seems to be one of the most talked about items on the line!

Thanks. Interesting stuff! A thumper would be rather nice on that line.
