I recently heard a version of this song by Al Martino and thought that brown was the predominant eye colour in Spain, having met many people from there in past days. I wonder what idea was behind the title of the song.

If brown is the predominant eye colour, then seeing someone with blue eyes is remarkable enough for it to be recorded in song?

Is it not just the use of poetic licence? in a similar vein to Vera Lynn's wartime song "There'll Be Bluebirds Over The White Cliffs Of Dover" being as there are no species of Bluebirds in Europe.

I too thought the same thing all those years ago when it was first released.
