Blue lights at Gatwick train station

At Gatwick today and have noticed blue lights positioned on the platforms. Any ideas what these are for?

I've also noticed these - I suspect that it is to prevent drug use on the platforms.

I believe blue lights make it more difficult to find a vein.

Thanks for that - looks like I was very wrong in that case.

I did notice they were located in more secluded areas which makes sense.

I saw something that must have been these from the road when driving through this morning. They seemed fairly bright to the estent that I was waiting for them to flash indicating they were police/ambulance/fire related!

Some Morrisons supermarkets have blue lighting in the toilets. I thought that was to stop people finding a vein.

I thought pink decor, rather than blue lighting, was used in some police cells because it was found to calm people down.

These lights were not positioned in secluded parts of the platform. Some where positioned at the foot of the stairs and some where by the timetable sheets on the platforms.

Its an anti suicide method. They've popped up on lots the metro stations on the GEML, along with anti suicide fence that are meant to keep people off the fast line platforms.

Thanks Stats, that definitely answers the question. The guy is right about one thing on the video. It made me say "Oh, Blue lighting, why?"

They found it wasn't psychological because the same effect was exhibited in blind people who still had eyes (and working photoreceptors) while the effect wasn't present in blind people who don't have eyes.

They're also a migraine trigger - and a very one strong one of mine. I can wear rose-tinted glasses to help, but, well, that makes me overly optimistic

It doesn't, the best veins are those that can be felt rather than seen. All it means is IVDUs do it by touch.

Probably something to do with the colour temperature and the difference in "warmth" from daylight/moonlight.
