hello to everyone. i noticed that there isn't a thread where people can discuss blogs on urban design or public transit and finding blogs is hard so i decided to open this thread to help each other out. i have came across (and read from time to time) these blogs. they are americas-centric as i couldn't find a good european one yet:

https://nextmetro.substack.com/ (about canada's public transit)
https://humantransit.org (about usa public transit)
https://mx-schroeder.medium.com (about accidents in public transit)

i would like to hear your suggestions.

This US-centric website is a link aggregator with links on a variety of topics such as Urbanism, Public Transit, Environment & Ecology. It’s also a blog where they publish transcripts of their podcast program, Talking Headways and the occasional writings such as their last article, “The Evolution from Big-Box to Big-Warehouse.”

By far the best UK site for this sort of thing is London Reconnections:

Which has had a great series of articles on the past, present and future of London transpost for the past 15 years at least. From about 2000 to 2022 there was always a pipeline of London transport projects at the planning, design, construction and opening phases, and London reconnections documented it very well. It did absolutely incredible articles on projects like Crossrail 2 and the Sutton tram extension. Since the project pipeline has slowed down, it still does new articles, but fewer of them are on the design of future projects. It also had a brilliant comments section, where all of the popular ideas enthusiasts have about, for example, extending the Victoria or the Waterloo and City lines, or lots of new tram lines like Paris, were carefully examined for plausubility. The whole thing made it very easy to start as a non-knowlegeable enthusiaist and gradually understand why the projects being pursued were the ones being pursued. A real goldmine of information!

It also has links to other relevant articles on their (twice-weekly) Friday Reads section, which can lead to other interesting items on the linked sites.

Not exclusively USA - he's been commenting on South America recently and looked at the UK a few months back. Mainly bus-related though.

On the urban design front, one blog I follow is Municipal Dreams, which documents social housing projects. It's mostly UK-centric, but it has recently covered housing projects in the Netherlands.

Well worth a read if you're interested.

i forgot about that. the reason he is bus oriented is because he is a bus network designer and had done quite a few overhauls i believe. i really like his posts as I find them to be quite comprehensive and it's intriguing to see the thought processes of a designer. He, with his posts, showed me that urban design (or was it planning?) could be a fun area to work in.
