Blackpool to Preston Train Ticket advice please?

hi im wanting to book a train ticket from blackpool north to preston and ill be coming back in a few days when i go to book it i can get it for 15 pounds.

But i checked to see how much it is to go to manchester and it's only 11 pounds for the same type of ticket as well.

how come for a 23 mins journal it cost more?

I was thinking of just getting the same train to manchester for that price and just get off and on at preston is that aloud?

I suspect that the £11 fare is a combination of Advance fares for each leg of your journey, as I cannot see that fare on a walk-on basis.

The £15.40 fare to Preston is a combination of two singles, one in each direction, as there is no period return for that journey.

I would therefore say that the ticket you are looking at is not valid for starting/stopping short at Preston.

Not allowed or "aloud". Dumb conditions I agree, but that's the way the railway industry is trying to remove flexibility.

It seems the options are £15.40 for a standard any train return, or £14.90 for a first class open return, limited to travel on Transpennine trains only, not Northern.

Unfortunately you are forced to get 2 x Anytime Day Singles for £7.70 each. Is there a bus alternative?

That's not the same type of ticket; the Manchester ticket is an Advance ticket

Journeys are generally priced on a 'what the market will bear' (taking into account supply & demand) basis, and not on travel time (though a shorter journey time can make a journey more attractive, therefore command a higher price).

You are not allowed to finish short on an Advance ticket.
