I purchased an off peak return between London and Blackpool north last month, however I did not use the return portion as planned instead catching a lift with a work colleague.

This weekend (it is still in date), can I use this ticket and start my journey from Manchester pic? In the same breath, can I stop short this journey at Harrow and wealdstone (without going into Euston)?

Thanks in advance for the replies and apologies if this question has been answered in the past.

Yes, National Rail will allow the ticket to be routed via Manchester and break of journey is permitted.

Virgin staff at Piccadilly will give it a funny look however and be prepared to justify the validity of it! (They wouldn't initially accept a GM Rail Ranger on an inbound train as it was 'the wrong portion') (the ticket was purchased at Manchester Oxford Road a few hours earlier.. )

DEFINITELY valid however!

Yes, valid. No real time advantage to going into London and back out (with an extra ticket) as far as I can see so changing at MKC is probably your best bet.

Some of the Virgin staff at Picc are 'difficult' and others are great. Chances are, (99%) you'll be allowed to travel without any hassle but be prepared in case they decide to make up their own rules (no BoJ, not a valid route, not valid at this time, only valid on Northern, only valid on the direct service from BPN, etc etc).
