I didn't take a photo as I am a little wary with the orange folk not wanting to be on Camera, but Salford Central west end there are now a number of new OHLE stuctures. One very large latticework T covering both the current platform 1 and 2 and also reaching over 3 and 4. 3 and 4 also has its droppers and other attachments. I think I counted about three sets of OHLE gantries now at the west of Salford. I think these are the most Westerly ones within the central Manchester area so far.

Over the weekend someone sent me some interesting shots of scrapes and pegs in Bolton station. Alas, he used his real name in the email and I can't match it back to the name we have previously used for his photos.

I've replied to his email but I suspect he hasn't picked it up.

I'm all ready to publish them and some sent by Wrinkley, but I'm stuck without his "pen name" (nom de photo?).

There's been more piling progress on the Down line south of Chorley.
Most of the gaps to the L&L canal and beyond are now piled, including through the site of the temporary platform at Chorley, now dismantled.
The remaining gaps between Bolton and Euxton are about half a mile through Lostock station, and the cutting/tunnel/arches at Chorley.
Plenty of new trial holes/pegs south of Bolton (Up side mainly) towards Clifton, including through P3/4 at Bolton.

PS Can confirm piles lying lineside at intervals from Fylde Jn almost to Salwick.
There's a large stack of piles, plus diggers, on the Up side just west of Fylde Jn.

John Evans has kindly sent details of a meeting run by the Institution of Railway Signalling Engineers (IRSE) this Thursday evening in Preston. The subject is the NW electrification, details here:

I have emailed the IRSE to try to make sure "all welcome" includes non-members and to ask whether is will be suitable for laymen.

Well I have a confirmed trip early July with Dave - probably by car in the Chorley to Blackpool area - and I am encouraged that we will see huge progress. I have a very quick trip home to the NW of England Feb 24-27th when I hope to do a lightning quick trip to Darkinson/Sidgreaves Lane and Salwick. I will also be home Spring Bank weekend May 26-29th and will do the same. So with all the contributions coming in, I am feeling much better. I wish it was the same (sorry OT mods forgive me) down on the GWML.

I'm tickled pink to see that Bullfield West (aka Ken) has put an album on the Combined Volume (CV).

To access it go into the CV and click on the very first image, then look down the "Comments". Several people have kindly linked their work there, Ken being the latest.

This way of doing things has a number of advantages, notably that the photographer keeps total control of his or her work and how it is presented. The only downside that I can see is that it becomes up to readers to check these links to see if they have been updated.

It is taken from Fylde Rd in Preston - the B6241 as there is an excellent access point there. If Joseph Locke is around he maybe able to confirm what I am absolutely sure the plan is. From this location work back towards the junction with the WCML a hundreds yards NW of Preston PSB and then the other way towards Salwick. The team at Salwick will work backwards to meet in the middle and forwards towards Kirkham. That will I think be the plan. Anyway, when I am home I promise to take you there again.

Passing Salwick, I'm not sure it's operational as a works site yet, it looks still under construction.
Piles are strung out on both sides from the Preston work site for a good way towards Salwick, but none driven home yet.

I will check Feb 24th. When Dave and I were there at xmas there was a portakabin on site manned by a security guard and equipment already there. It had portaloos (portable toilets or whatever they are called) so they were certainly getting ready. So would not know if fully operational just yet , but since 6 weeks has passed I would hope considerable progress has been made even if no piles rammed down yet.

According to Wikipedia the Nottingham blockade in 2013 was 10 weeks. Similar size station at 6-7 platforms but only one major length of platform to be re-built.

Crewe in 1985 was 7 weeks. 19 weeks does seem a long time.
