Plus potential land purchase and earthworks, signalling alterations (WW101/102 would be in the middle of the new platform), a rather tricky Derogation for placing new platforms on a 1 in 88 gradient and a 360m radius, works to Foggy Lane footbridge ...

Rail is reporting (#786, p6) that Network Rail has not yet signed a contract with Carillion to complete NW electrification (as of October 14).
Who's doing the alterations at Ordsall Lane then, linked to the Ordsall Chord?

Rail is 14 days behind the curve.

The Chord is a JV of BAM, Skanksa, Aecom and Mott MacDonald with Siemens, Amey Sersa et al delivering the Rail Systems stuff - I guess that Carillion would pick up the OLE for this too, but I'd have to check.

Network Rail has been pushing the remodelling of Oxford Road and Piccadilly on Twitter, are they linked to the Ordsall Curve works? They've given a start date of 2016 and a completion of the end of 2018. Just wondering if they were original projections, and if so they shouldn't be affected by any delay in the Ordsall affair.

The corridor works haven't even had their public inquiry yet, so it's too early to tell if it will be a long-drawn-out affair like the Chord.
There are some significant objectors (Manchester University for instance).
The heritage issues should be less than the Chord, although a greater number of people/businesses along the route will be impacted.
There are some big housing developments near Oxford Road too, the lineside landscape changes every week as new towers go up.

The inquiry has opened and is apparently due to close on Friday. Nobody is opposed to the principle of the scheme, just aspects of it that affect them.

The NR closing statement looks quite positive, and there do not look like being major objections.
They make reference to a 35-day blockade in August 2019, presumably to commission the new infrastructure.
Thankfully they are doing away with the footbridge (and canopies) at Oxford Road!

Paul and I went to see Fillie today.

We arrived 11:15-ish with madame sticking out by about three metres*. Proof positive that she must have been aligned correctly.

We went away after a while and when we came back 13:30-ish she was a good metre further out.

Early stage dismantling preparations appeared to be taking place, eg erecting scaffolding, including inside her.

Interested to see how they keep Trafford Park Terminal open.

Also surely it might be better beginning in mid July 2019 to minimise disruption to the football season and to coincide with the summer holidays

Aside from being 4 days late, the Bolton News articles announcing the break through also confirms that Fillie starts to be removed from site this Saturday and that the road closures between 8pm and 6am on the A666 (which have occurred over October for other reasons) will now continue for another week (possibly longer) for the large wagons required.

The Bolton News must be reading Twitter. Same delay, same pictures.

To be exact, it says that some more overnight lane closures will be required, not that the previous overnight road closures will continue. I imagine only the left-hand southbound lane will be affected, as that's where the access is.

It also says a short closure of the entire railway will be required, details to come later.

If this work means doing away with bay platform 5 at Oxford Road then better use must be made of the rarely-used platform 1. Currently the lifts don't serve it.

Drawings in the public inquiry evidence suggest three lifts at Oxford Rd, and completely re-designed stairs and footbridge, with stairs in both directions onto P1 and P2/3.

Faintly reminiscent of Reading, but on a smaller scale.
