Blackpool Heritage Trams - 2015

Blackpool Transport have today announced details of all the Heritage Tram running days for the year, and there's a huge increase in the amount of running compared with the past couple of years - trams out every weekend and during school holidays, and six vehicles on certain bank holidays.

Heritage Service 2015 - 130th Anniversary
We are delighted to announce the exciting and long anticipated Heritage Tram Tours operating dates for the 2015 season!

Tours will commence on 28th March 2015 and operate every Saturday and Sunday until 8th November, 2015. In addition to these weekends, tours will run midweek Monday 30th March to Friday 10th April, Monday 4th May, Tuesday 26th to Friday 29th May, Monday 27th July to Thursday 3rd September and Monday 26th to Friday 30th October. (No heritage tours will operate on 4th & 5th September due to Promenade closure at Tower for Illuminations switch on concert).

The core tour service will operate between North Pier and Pleasure Beach from 1000hrs to 1700hrs up to every twenty minutes and use ‘open boat’ cars in fine weather or enclosed heritage trams at other times. Enhanced services will operate at bank holidays and other special events including runs further afield on the tramway to include Little Bispham and Fleetwood.

That's really good news and I'm sure will draw many more visitors to Blackpool for day trips, weekend stays and even longer vacations. Even women and kids seem to appreciate old trams, particularly doubledeckers. With so many of the 'classic' trams still available and less to go wrong than on an old train or bus, it seemed a rather negative policy to leave them unused in the depot.

Ride & Dine on selected Wednesdays looks like an interesting addition to the heritage tour offering, not outrageously priced at £25 p.p for a tour, meal and glass of champagne either. Similar Ride & Dine boat trips in London cost much more.

Blackpool Illuminations are to receive £2 from Coastal Communities Fund to create some 'new light shows for the 21st century' so, if in place by this autumn, should add to visitor numbers.

They seem to be out a lot more than they were in 2014 - including 2 half terms and all of August - presumably when there's more children around.

Wouldn't even pay for that these days I could say my experience of money is only in the millions but to be honest £2 is nearer my horizons. Yes, silly typo, £2m is the true amount.
