Blackpool (football) weekend

After your great help to date could I impose once more....

I am looking to do a weekend in Blackpool (between Fri 19 and Sun 21 Nov) with my other half. I am flexible on when we travel out and back (ie whether we stay for one or two nights - have a cheapish place lined up...) but want to minimise ticket costs.

One restriction is I must be in Blackpool by 1300 on Sat 20 Nov and cannot leave before 1800 on the same day. (A glance at the football fixtures and my name on here will tell you who I support).

Virgin advance ticket prices look rather high and my attempts at examining splitting have not helped....

Other info (of doubtful use): I have an annual Zone 1&2 Travelcard, my other half has a Freedom pass.

Based on the freedom pass, are you and/or your partner over 55? If so you could make use of the club55 deal: see here. You'd need to get a hull trains train to Doncaster, then a transpennine express to Manchester, and another transpennine express to Blackpool. This would cost £25 each, or £35 each in first class. You'll need to buy this from a station, rather than online.

I agree that this is an excellent deal if both of you are age 55+. It is so good it may well be worth considering if only one of you is age 55+.

I think it's £25 standard return or £40 first class return (unless either of you has a Senior or Disabled Railcard). See bullet point 3 of the Club 55 Terms & Conditions.
