Blackfriars

Evening all, Went through Blackfriars recently and it was unrecognisable compared to the old station, of which I quite liked. Does anyone have any good pictures/links to websites with pictures, particularly of the three terminal platforms?

I thought there may be some old pictures on the National Rail station plan to compare any new ones to... however National Rail got there too late and the refurb had started!

However, we do get to see a bit of the person taking these pictures in a bathroom mirror - along with a workman who appears to be completing a crossword

For those interested the first part of the station roof structure is now in place at the north end of the station.

With regards to the Underground station, the steel protection hoarding was removed during the holiday weekend, to finally reveal the platforms for a short while until they are hoarded off again!

The 1960s platform extension at the west end is still quite evident. Posters from the time of closure still decorate this part.

It maybe an optical illusion, due to the lack of the false ceiling but the platforms seem slightly wider in the central section.

I've got a downloaded planning drawing from 2009 which suggests the platforms are 4m (13ft) deep all the way along - except for the western extension area you mention. No idea how that relates to the original station's platform depth.

The escalators are roughly half way along the LU station, but behind walls, parallel to the tracks, and about a third of the way along the station (measured from the west) there is a significantly widened section about 14m (45ft) long providing roughly triangular access areas to the foot of the escalators. Lifts and emergency stairs etc are further along towards the east end, but they seem to be accessed through dedicated passageways from the platforms.

Replace the asterisks with 'tin', 'y' and 'url' - it gets blocked if you type it as one word...

Hate to be a pain but I'm getting a large red cross and no picture when I click on some of the thumbnails to get a better look, why?

That aside, it's nice to see the Thameslink Programme nearing it's halfway point.
