Hello

I asked for a return ticket from central London to Gatwick with Network Railcard to travel tomorrow and return on a Sunday.

I said I didn't mind which central London station it left from as I would be using an Oyster card on the tube to get there anyway so would be paying a zone 1 single fare as well.

I was sold a Blackfriars to Gatwick ticket for £11.20 return.

Was this the cheapest available?
The ticket doesn't say FCC only, so can I use it on any company?
Can I use this ticket to / from Victoria, especially on days when FCC doesn't go to Blackfriars?

Thanks

A Southern Only return from London Bridge to Gatwick Airport is priced at £10.45.

I assume you have a railcard? That's the correct price if you do for routes not involving the Underground, but no restrictions as to TOC. I doubt if it's valid from Victoria though.

The journey planner says out via Cannon Street and London Bridge, direct back for this weekend

okay, so it is reasonable to expect that a ticket may be sold that it is only valid from the station you're at.
I was sold a Blackfriars to Gatwick ticket for £11.20 return.

Was this the cheapest available?
I think so, yes.
The ticket doesn't say FCC only, so can I use it on any company?
Yes, the National Rail Conditions of Carriage has exact wording to cover this but basically if there is a TOC restriction it will be "printed on the ticket".
Can I use this ticket to / from Victoria
I don't think so. But you would need to consult the Routeing Guide to be sure (and even then different people may interpret it differently).

especially on days when FCC doesn't go to Blackfriars?

Thanks
It is possible that an easement may allow it; you'd need to ask FCC (who price the ticket), you could try asking Southern if they'd accept it in those circumstances. However it is likely that such a ticket would need to be used from London Bridge instead.

In the 'from' field on the ticket, does it state London Terminals or London Blackfriars?

Was this the cheapest available?
There may have been £5.00 advance singles each way available from/to Victoria and London Bridge, but they would be valid only on the booked train. Advance tickets for tomorrow have now been removed from the system so I can't check if this is the case. These start at £3.65 if bought on the Southern website.
There is also a £5.20 Southern Only SDS from London Bridge-Gatwick Airport, so a pair of those would come to £10.40. If bought at the Southern website, there is also a £4.30 CDS.

Yes you can, provided you are on a permitted route and not breaking any time restrictions (I would be surprised if the ticket was time restricted at the weekend).

Can I use this ticket to / from Victoria, especially on days when FCC doesn't go to Blackfriars?
It would depend on the origin of the ticket. If it says London Terminals, then yes but if it says London Blackfriars, then no.
When Blackfriars is closed, the alternative arrangements are for you to use bus (N)63 from Elephant & Castle, or buses 45/(N)63 from St. Pancras. To get to St. Pancras, you would use the Northern Line from London Bridge. There is no easement that I can see to allow travel into/via Victoria.

London Terminals - Gatwick Airport
Anytime Return
Route Not Gatwick Express
Y-P £16.75

Wrong price. It is issued from Blackfriars.

London Blackfriars - Gatwick Airport
Anytime Return
Route Not Underground
Y-P £11.20

Thanks for everyone's answers.
Next time I will go to the Southern website!
It's amazing the difference in price when you think how much people are paying for the Gatwick Express

Yes, Network Railcard

Presumably I can just get off at London Bridge on the way back as the tube connections are much better

Yes, of course you can as it is on a permitted route to Blackfriars and as it is an SOR, break of journey is permitted.
