Blackberry advice

I am considering getting a Blackberry specifically for rail gen (receiving and posting).
I currently have an iPhone on contract and whilst I like it, for the purposes of email it just isn't up to the job in my opinion.

I will be going with O2 (my current provider) but I know nothing about Blackberrys and would like some advice on the following :-

Does the lack of 3G on the 8900 slow down receiving emails or because the email is pushed does lack of 3G make little difference?

Which is the best email provider to use in connection with a Blackberry. I currently use Fastmail, with whom I am happy, however I filter all emails into folders so they never actually appear in my Inbox, will this work in connection with a Blackberry?

I have a 8900 and the lack of 3g does nothing to prevent emails being sent and received easily by me as long as I remember to keep my internet access package active that is,

For some emails, it does take some time but for simple emails, it's a case of instant delivery.

I've got both email addresses set up on the Blackberry and it's cool not only because I get the SNCF tone but I don't have to be at a desk to answer any emails or send any plus it's useful when I'm out and about as I can see what the LUL services are like before arriving in London.
