Managed by Scotrail, who's trains dont serve the station.

I think that is the only station in the country with that setup.

Also the service for the town is appalling considering the number for services that pass through every hour. Credit to TPX who have most of their services call, but in the gaps where there isnt a TPX service then virgin should step in.

There's several stations that XC serve exclusively that are managed by other operators. Often, these are between stations served and operated by those operators. I don't think XC actually run any stations- is the same true of fTPE? It makes more sense for the geographical operator (Scotrail in this case) to run the station from an operational point of view.

Manea is an example, being between March and Ely, both operated by NXEA, but served (if that's the right word for two services each way each day) by XC.

There's a few stations on the Birmingham - Leicester - Peterborough line that are operated by EMT but only XC stop there. Same deal.

Considering the size of Lockerbie, it gets a reasonable (if irregular) service. The London trains miss out much bigger stations than Lockerbie too...

Yeah, EMT run some stations on Leicester - Peterborough when they only run 1/2 early morning Nottingham - Norwich trains and 1 return

Currently in South London New Cross gate to West Croydon are managed by London Overground whose trains wont serve them until the East London Line Extension re-opens.

I can think of few stations that TPE run like Hull Paragon and all the stations between Northallerton and Middlesbrough (going via Yarm).

Yeah, admit, it is better now than it used to be.

London Midland run but don't serve Water Orton, Wilnecote, Coleshill Parkway.

East Midlands run but don't serve Burton on Trent, Willington, Hinckley, Narborough, South Wigston.

Was much rarer originally, now happens a lot with franchise changes and the desire to keep station management off XC's books.

I think there's other reasons for finding Lockerbie bizarre (and no offence to folks who live there!).
Although its further south than Berwick on the east coast, due the electrification choices made twenty years ago, its on the route the EC electric service have to follow to get from Glasgow to Edinburgh (before they travel north again. its pretty much a 90 degree turn);
those 140mph capable trainsets go through at 15mph;
they never set down nor pick up pax;
its got a lot of platform for very little stopping trains;
trying to book tix to get there from Carlisle give you services to Edinburgh with connections doubling all the way back to Carstairs (which is quicker than waiting for something that might actually go there and stop. Not that there's an easement to allow this);
and the asylum aka prison that you circle round at 15mph (I'd better not post anything about that on here);
its also on a neutral section, which means coasting at 15mph. (Is there a neutral section on any other mainline OLHE whose linespeed is 15mph?);
on board EC staff have asked, while tip-toeing round the asylum at 15mph with the power off, "why do we come here" - and nobody knows.
its a mistake.

Are you not thinking of Carstairs?

Crewe (which I don't agree with)
Stafford
Nuneaton
Rugby
Milton Keynes
...even Watford

Lockerbie gets some Pendolino's. The one I was on today (1850 from Warrington BQ) stopped there!

Dean and Mottisfont Dunbridge are SWT service only but still run by fGW who used to be the only operator prior to being replaced by the SWT Salisbury-Romsey via Romsey circle trains.
Carstairs is as bad as Lockerbie given the service it used to have when trains split and joined there a few years back. Then again there isn't much population or life in general near it!

As someone who spent a fair chunk of his 1980s childhood gricing on Carstairs station, I'd agree with you, but its a shame the station can't be used as a place for splitting, or for Edinburgh - Glasgow trains to stop so that people can board the next Glasgow - WCML service, thus increasing the number of journey opportunities down the West Coast line.

In an ideal world you'd build a massive triangular station there but that'll never happen

The OP thinks Lockerbie is the only FSR-operated station not served by them. There is one other, that being Dunbar. Operated by FSR, served by AXC and EC.:)

Oh right, when did that change?
I think it's always been operated by the East Coast franchise holder. GNER used to operate it so it's been that way for at least 5 years.

Hmm, could have sworn it was FSR at one point. Need to research further. Could be mixing it up with something else, dunno.

Thanks for the correction though :)
