At 0430 this morning, I was patrolling the Wirral line platform at Liverpool Central. There was a very heavy presence of diesel fumes.
About 5 mins after being down there, an EWS class 66+barrier+long trailer type vehicles came through about 10mph and passed the signal at danger, presumably because the line was under a possession. There were at least 3 people in the cab, with 5/6 Network Rail lads inside the barrier van in full hi-viz.
Didn't get the 66s number, but this is only the 2nd time I've seen a 66 in the underground.
The 1st time I saw one was at 0300 at Hamilton Square Wirral line loop, towing an 2x MPVs... that was a few months back...
Questions:
1) What had this been doing
2) Where had it entered from, (Chester/Ellesmere Port??)
3) If a 66 can run through these tunnels then surely any train can fit?
