Yes, and they weren't happy!

I told him, he claimed it was in the bag - I started to walk away, looking in to the bag when the guy ran over and dumped the reciept on the counter = refund time! He then put up an argument about it!
A mate of mine's had a freebie.

Had a couple of refunds last one only 50p and the woman behind the till showed off two rather impressive talents,

1, how to nearly kill people just by looking at them.
2, how to spontaneously start breathing fire without any physical means of combustion.

Do that all the time and never had any problems, most of the staff seem to be dis-interested in what they do anyway.

Think I didn't get a receipt once but was on the train by that time.

Another thing I've noticed is that the stamps they use on the coffee loyalty cards can be bought on the internet for a few quid. Would be quite easy to buy one and get free coffees for a while.

That would be down to the sheer number of staff pocketing your money & fiddleing the co out of ££thousands

I failed to be given a receipt once at a Delice de France outlet at one of the London termini. Pointed it out by aiming my finger at the "free if no receipt given" notice, asked for the refund and 30 seconds later I got given....

At Wetherspoon they seem to draw a squiggly line in the box with a black pen. They all seem to be different so either the design is not identical in each outlet (in which case you can draw one yourself), or there is some secret pattern which they draw in each box!

M&S will always be best at everything in my book. However on the subject of sarnies, why are SSP outlets now only selling 'Ginster' ones rather than making their own?

I don't know if they run ALL railway station ones, but all the ones I've been to at BR stations are run by them.

They do run station ones as a franchise, but the Bite discount doesn't apply- presumably this is dictated by M&S under the franchise terms.

I find things in M&S at stations are the same price on the high street anyway. And it's the cheapest place to buy a sandwich! When I don't take my own lunch to work I always go to Victoria station M&S and buy a £1 tuna mayo sandwich! Giving a 20% discount would either mean selling things at a loss (depending on how they buy their produce), or competition with "high street" M&S stores, neither of which are desirable for the brand or the organisations concerned.

Refused a BiTE Card discount at Pumpkin in Plymouth last week. Initially because the two cans of Strongbow I picked up were on a "2 for £3.25" offer. The offer sign (which had fallen off the fridge shelf) did indeed say "not valid with any other offer", so fair enough. I then said I'll have just the one can and the discount didn't work on the till either. The spotty yoof behind the counter said that BiTE was no longer applied to 'bought in stuff' ???

Quite what he meant by that I couldn't fathom as surely everything they sell is bought in. I'm not aware of a pastry chef knocking up muffins in the back or a tea and coffee plantation outside!

A quick phone call to SSP at Euston and the advisor I spoke with called the unit, from whereupon a Manager appeared, apologised personally, explaining that the "2 for....." offers had been entered into the till system in such a way that the BiTE discount no longer worked if only one item was purchased. I got my discount and the manager offered me a free muffin or cake for the hassle.

Again, this will be part of the franchise agreement. M&S would seem to want to keep everything the same for customers, regardless of location- the M&S branches at service stations on Motorways also lack mark-up- contrast with e.g. Tesco who charge generally higher prices in their High Street "Express" and "Metro" branches than "normal" and "Extra" large branches.

There was around a 5% mark up at some M&S railway station sites. For example tinned tuna which was 89p at the Moorgate store was sold at 93p at Liverpool St. Network Rail used to also have some sort of profit-share thing on total sales.

You've got some cash to burn! For me it's a meal deal from Boots or King Deal (still cheaper when the reject my card)

I've had one for a while - was introduced by a friend.

Never had any issues with it that I can think of and has come in useful on a number of occasions.

Mainly use it at Upper Crust at Manchester Piccadilly but have used it at likes of BK and Pumpkin on occasion too before now as well as Millies Cookies

I've never had any junk sent through by post (but there again, I got it when I was in uni halls a few years ago so they are probably still getting it for me!)
Occasionally had offers through by email (though not recently) whereby you can get things at a reduced price and usually it explicitly states that the 20% off is also valid on top of that too!

I don't go in there often.
Went in a few times when I was working nearby, and sometimes go in to get a prawn mayo sandwich and some milk when I'm heading back to uni.

King's Cross has TWO McDonalds but they both just outside the station. I've never worked out why they have two so close together!

The one in York Way was previously a Wendy's, and rebranded as McD's in the 90s IIRC.

As to why they've kept both, your guess is as good as mine.

They cannot serve enough people in both of them at times.. Plus the one on York Way is 24 hours now and most passengers will use that one while everyone who doesnt use the station tend to use the one over the road as they will get more chance of a seat and served in a reasonable amount of time..

Though Tesco is only round the corner..
