I don't understand why more people do not have one of these great little cards.

Last time I was in Newcastle Burger King purchasing a Milk Shake the number of people in front of me with huge orders that could easily have been reduced by 20% was unbelieveable.

I was almost tempted to offer to hire it out at £1 a time

I've shown mine to a couple of people to much astonishment. Though TBH I've not had much call to use it (last big rail trip was in March - and I've not done much short haul since - only Charing Cross to Queen Street to spare my lady's heels

If I was going to buy food or drink at a station, I'd go to either Boots or McDonald's. As the card doesn't give a discount at either of those places, I don't have one.

You can get a 2l bottle of supermarket brand bottled water for 40p. For 40p, it's worth the convenience! (You're paying more for the plastic than for the water.)

There are three reasons to buy bottled water; the water at your destination is not potable, the water there is potable but does not taste nice and you want to minimize weight (each litre is roughly 1kg)

It will just be to give them feedback on which of their adverts works best, that's all. The code will define the magazine, newspaper or whatever.

When advertising in the small adds in newspapers, with response expected by letter, it was commonplace for companies to get you to reply to 'Dept xx', where 'xx' would be a simple code to define exactly where the add had been placed...

0.35L flask of coffee 10p, 50cl tap water in hiker's aluminium flask free, 4 cheese butties 50p, cheapie cereal bar 15p - total 75p sorted. Sometimes treat myself to an i newspaper for another 20p, mostly just browse t'net on my phone though (when I'm in signal!). That's my go anywhere kit, for less than a quid.

They are 16p at Tesco's or Asda's.

I combine my card with the relevant coffee cards and when averaged out it's about £1.30 or something for cup of coffee.

I only ever use it to buy food if I am out on the rails all day and I don't stop off anywhere with anything cheaper like M&S or Tesco over the road.

True, so do I but I tend to find myself going into the Pumpkin ones the vast majority of the time.

Also I wish all SSP outlets would accept the bite card.

Lol not usually as we have a "holiday"* flat that I am usually travelling to or from. Well I stop off for groceries, but I'd be eating at home anyway so that doesn't count.

I do pay for my rail ticket - natch the cheapest Advance I can find!

*(It was a flat we bought when my mum moved up there and we needed a base for visiting, but now she's sadly died I suppose its only function is for holidays.)

For Euston & St Pancras etc. you can get a filter coffee for 99p at Pret - it's usually ok but can sometimes be a little bitter.

The 'Friends Meeting House' opposite Euston does a nice cup of tea for £1 and there is a quiet little courtyard to drink it in.

But I also find myself looking for the 'Pumpkin cafe' to use my loyalty card!
Although I am quite happy buying coffee on the train, on Virgin and FGW anyway. Somehow it feels quite indulgent!
