Bit of Confusion

Quite a bit of confusion today.

According to the departure boards at London Kings Cross, the 15:00 Glasgow Central service was cancelled, and an emergency timetable 15:00 Edinburgh was put in its place. The queues were horrendous, but once boarded the train the guard announced "this is the 15:00 to Glasgow Central, calling at Peterborough, York, Darlington, Newcastle, Alnmouth, Berwick, Edinburgh, Haymarket, Motherwell & arriving Glasgow at 22:02.

In no way did the on-board guard announce it as cancelled beyond Edinburgh, but the departure boards disagree.

"EDINBURGH VIA EDINBURGH 15:00 ON TIME" was the board at Kings Cross.
Even now, the departure board for Glasgow announces it as "CANCELLED"


Why did this happen?

ALSO, the train had a particularly bad journey north of york - flashing blue lights in the snow all the way, anyone any idea what this was about?

The flashing blue lights bit sounds like the pantograph flashes reflecting off the surrounding snow.

Yes, the electrical breaks in continuity are aggravated by the ice, so you'd experience more arcing.
Viewed from standard class when hauled by a 91 through the white and reflective snowscape makes it very apparent as blue flashes.

Well it's not exactly got much choice in the matter there.

But there was still a bit of confusion as to regards where the service was terminating.

Sometimes the onboard staff are not given the same information as station staff.
