Birmingham to York

So soon I am going to York to the rail museum , going from Coventry but have to change at New Street. I was just wondering what Cross Country train I'll be on? HST, Turbo or a Voyager? I've searched around the net and didn't find anything that would tell me..

Also what should I check out at the museum, first time going for 8 years, I was 10 at the time and can't remember a lot...

You'll almost certainly be on a Voyager, although some HSTs do run that route (mainly northbound in the afternoon & evening).

Thanks for your response. Slightly disappointed that I'll be on a Voyager, really wanted to go on a HST.

It is a shame - HSTs are only really possible on day trips heading south-west from Birmingham...

For up-to-date info on diagrammes look at 125group.org.uk

It's true the first Southbound 125 is the 06.40 blip from York, but Northbound will be the balance of that working the 13.20 blip from Plymouth...both good trains.

It'll say either HST or DMU (Voyager).

It is a shame HSTs all go in one direction at the same time, makes logistical sense but also means you can't venture north in the mornings from Brum unless you want to sit on a voyager. With that in mind in most cases considering the ticket prices, i'd rather drive!

Indeed, I often have need to travel from Birmingham to York and Newcastle, and it always irks me slightly that at the times that are convenient for me to travel, the HSTs are always travelling in the opposite direction! I generally prefer to change at York, spend a couple of hours enjoying the delights that it's pubs and taverns offer, and then catch an East Coast train north, not least thanks to the cheap first class advances that are often available.

Mind you, there are exceptions to every rule, and I have had the opportunity to sample many pleasant journeys on Crosscountry's HSTs at other times
