Bought an off peak return for the above journey from a TVM at BHM, and was surprised to see the route printed as "via Stafford" on the ticket. I don't remember being offered any alternative options, so are there any, or is the routeing printed to simply stop people going on routes that aren't valid (I can't think why anyone would)?

Interesting. The only permitted routes are via Stafford or via Colwich Junction (which are hardly any different). It's not like there are other routes such as via Sheffield or via Shrewsbury.
