Afternoon All,

I'm travelling from Birmingham to Stewartby tomorrow and travelling back up on Sunday.

There don't appear to be any trains through Stewartby on Sunday so I will need to make my way to Flitwick therefore I think I am going to do the following and I just wanted to check if this was ok?

  • Purchase an Off-Peak Return from BNS to Flitwick for £36.00.
  • Travel from [stn]BHM[/stn] through MK and Bletchley to Stewartby tomorrow
  • Travel back to [stn]BHM[/stn] from Flitwick on Sunday through Leicester and Derby (I believe it is a bus from Leicester to [stn]BHM[/stn] which I'm keen to avoid)

Many Thanks,

Paul

Rule #1 of Railforums - you do not abbreviate Birmingham New Street
Rule #2 of Railforums - you DO NOT abbreviate Birmingham New Street <D

PRS - Yes, that's fine as far as I can tell. On the return you can get a Derby train direct from Bedford.

Rule #3 of Railforums - if you ignore the above rules you will be mocked.
Rule #4 of Railforums - it's BHM (for future reference ;))

Stewartby is towards the Bedford end of the Marston Vale (Bletchley -> Bedford) line, which only operates Mondays - Saturdays, hence no Sunday service.

Anyone know for definite if the return journey (from Flitwick) to Birmingham New Street (changing at Bedford and Derby) would be permitted, thus avoiding being "bustituted" on the leg between Leicester and Birmingham? (National Rail Enquiries seems to suggest this is o.k.)

Yes, Flitwick to BHM is fine either direct from Leicester or via Derby.

And are there any issues/problems for the OP as regards the proposed routing on the outward leg via Milton Keynes and Bletchley (and stopping "short" at Stewartby)?

No - indeed the NR Journey Planner even suggests this route on the Sat for certain trains.

The ticket restriction code is 2C, which allows BoJ on both legs, so no problems there. And given that Stewartby is unstaffed, I don't think there would be any trouble even if it were prohibited (though you would be breaking the T&Cs of the ticket).
