Good morning. I intend to travel from BHM to CDF this week with a split ticket at Cheltenham Spa. I will be returning on Saturday but there is engineering work with no trains on part of that route. Would the split ticket allow me to travel via Hereford to avoid the replacement bus service.
Thanks for your assistance.

No, if you're splitting tickets at Cheltenham then you'll have to travel via Cheltenham using the rail replacement services.
(Travelling via Hereford on a Cardiff to Cheltenham ticket is not a valid route)

Would travel via Hereford be allowed if a through Off Peak Return ticket was held from Birmingham Stns to/from Cardiff Central?

Yes the £78.20 (non discounted) off-peak return CDF to Birmingham Stations is valid via HFD.

It’s also valid via Hereford & Worcestershire Parkway, perhaps OP would have been better off splitting there instead of Cheltenham which is too out of the way.

That's very interesting, I'll look into that. Also considering travelling outbound via Hereford.
Thanks for the reply
