I wish to do New Street to Manchester
Travelling one way any Monday to Friday after 16:30 and up to 20:00
In October or November.
I have a senior railcard.

Is there a good split for the ticketing rather than a direct booking?

(My GM travel card allows me to travel between Wigan and Manchester so BHM to Wigan would also be acceptable.)

Unfortunately I have not been able to find any significant savings since you are travelling Off-Peak. However, if you are able to book now and commit to travelling on a specific train, there are some £7.60 Advance fares available on trains from 18:30.

Manchester to Lichfield City would be a reasonable route. (£17.15).

Thanks for the info.
My reasons were to ride the Chiltern Silver fast trains.

My iternery is set out below:--
Tues 4th Oct

MAN Pic to Crewe Arriva trains 07:30-----08:05 £7.65
Crewe to BHM New Street LM trains 08:49-----09:47 £4.60
Birmingham Moor Street to London 10:55---12:32 £4.95
Return 13:37----15:17 £3.30
BHM New Street to Crewe LM trains 16:01----16:53 £4.60
Crewe to MAN Pic Arriva trains 17:30-----18:13 £7.60

Ok, so do you want a day return, then?

You seem to be suggesting two singles instead of a day return for Manchester to Crewe.

The Anytime Day return would cost £8.45 and is valid on any train that day.

In future if you are going via Crewe. You may want to investigate Club 55 on the Arriva network (£16 with railcard) and see if they will allow Birmingham to Manchester.

From the terms and conditions -

Club 55 tickets can be used on the services of other train operators within the Arriva Trains Wales network for line of route travel only using the following operators: First Great Western, Cross Country, London Midland, Virgin Trains between North Wales and Crewe.
Therefore to me it allows Birmingham to Crewe on London Midland and Crewe to Manchester on Arriva.
(I read that as separate from the additional chargeable add ons otherwise the paragraph would mention Merseyrail and Northen etc. and not have Virgin in it)

I think it would have to be on a route served by ATW - so would have to go via Shrewsbury rather than Stafford.

I didn't realise that ATW actually ran on that route at all, I had only looked at the 'Club 55' map.

Rather than the London Midland advances - anytime day returns are £3 more expensive and allow a quicker journey and better flexibility (any trains that stop at Stafford).

Manchester to Stafford £13.60
Stafford to Birmingham £7.05

(Assuming that the GM pass isn't valid early in the morning)
