I am travelling from Birmingham to Motherwell and back on Saturday 7th November. A quick check for train times shows having to do both ways via Glasgow.
So the question is would a Birmingham - Motherwell saver (PRIV) at 31.45 be valid?
I tried to look at the routing guide but quite frankly it scrambled my brain!

No need for the routeing guide. Does the NRE website give you Motherwell-Glasgow-Birmingham on a single ticket? If so, then it is valid for the journey you want to take.

Birmingham - Motherwell saver (PRIV) at £31.45

Ouch! I can do Edinburgh to London (SSR @ £33.55 (Priv)) for not much more! I realise there may be time restraints but even so...........

Have you tried splitting? Would this be a day return you are making?

It is a day return. Off to watch Motherwell v Inverness with a few guys from work. I'm ok with that price. Cant be bothered with all the splitting stuff!!

Maybe just as well as it introduced another two splits for around an extra £1 saved - probably not worth the extra hassle?

Splitting at Wolverhampton, Crewe, Wigan (NW), & Oxenholme
