Birmingham-Kettering late 1990s

Hi all, my first post. Sorry if I've put it in the wrong place! Nice to be here.

Just wondering if any of you could help with something I'm writing please. If somebody's travelling from Birmingham to Kettering today, they'll change at Leicester. But do any of you know whether there'd have been a different way of doing it in the late 1990s - whether there was a direct service, or a different change, or something?

Welcome to the forum.

In the days of yore, it would have been possible to travel via Rugby, Northampton & Wellingborough.

But, as far as I know, the route you mention was the quickest way in the late 1990s.

As Welshman posts, via Leicester would be the easiest route anytime since the Marples-Beeching closures in the 1960s. Alternative routes would only be used if there were diversions due to engineering work, etc.
