Hello all. Can anyone help me find cheap tickets for the following journey:

Marston Green (MGN) to Carmarthen (CMN)
Going Saturday 3rd Sepember (around 10am)
Coming back Wednesday 7th September (around 11 am)

1 adult

No railcards

One special requirement: AVOID the Severn Tunnel

Best I've found so far seems to be Advances for the entire journey around £25-£29 each. Can anyone do any better?

Thanks

The advances are good, but tie you to specfic trains, not good in the event of emergency or change of plan.

Take advantage of the londonmidland 50 % sale, which ends on the 4th sept so your just in to get discount :)

londonmidland.com website

Marston Green - Abergavenny Route Worcester £12.40 Off Peak Return (50% off as LM price this fare usally £24.80, also don't think that your ticket expires on 4th Sept when the sale ends as it doesn't you have one calender month to complete the journey back)

Abergavenny - Carmarthen Any Permitted £32.90 Off Peak Return

total cost : £45.30

Journey Times for The Route via Worcester

3rd Sept Outward :

1008 Marston Green - Birmingham New Street 1016
1049 Birmingham New Street - Hereford 1219 (this train stops at Worcester)
1300 Hereford - Carmarthen 1546 (this train stops at Abergavenny so works for the ticket split)

7th Sept Return :

1104 Carmarthen - Hereford 1353 (stops at Abergavenny)
1440 Hereford - Birmingham New Street 1613
1613 Birmingham - Marston Green 1641

Now if you want to travel via the Faster Route of Cheltenham Spa, and then via Lydney as you specify avoiding the Severn Tunnel. This will help :

Again using the londonmidland.com 50% sale buy a :

Marston Green - Abergavenny Route Any Permitted Off Peak Return £19.35 (again this fare is priced by LM so qualifies for the 50% Sale) This ticket allows you to use this via Cheltenham and Stop Short at Newport South Wales.

Newport (South Wales)- Carmarthen Route Any Permitted Off Peak Return £26.80

Total cost £46.15

Journey Times via Cheltenham Spa avoiding Severn Tunnel.

3rd Sept Outward :

1008 Marston Green - Birmingham New Street 1016
1030 Birmingham New Street - Newport (South Wales) 1208
1244 Newport (South Wales) - Carmarthen 1456

7th Sept Return :

1104 Carmarthen - Newport (South Wales) 1302
1328 Newport (South Wales) - Cheltenham Spa 1434
1442 Cheltenham Spa - Birmingham New Street 1526
1553 Birmingham New Street - Marston Green 1601

Hope this Helps :)

That's great thanks Sonic. Decided to go for the second option as it's faster and only 85p more. You found me an overall cheaper price than advances and with full flexibility, awesome!
