Birmingham area disruption 26/2 evening

Services to Walsall suspended for the evening, rail tickets are valid on buses.

Fatality at Penkridge too.

I'm on the 2115 from New Street to Preston which left New St heading North but has gone through Perry Barr and Coventry. Will we be reversing at Rugby. The stop at Wolverhampton has been cancelled.

I'm sure I heard Walsall to Rugeley had gone tits up this morning due to a local signalling issue. I saw it was out again tonight, so did the same bit fail again?

Walsall was ok when I had a run up there soon after midday. Thought went out via Soho, which surprised me, but I'm no seasoned veteran in this area.

According to national rail website there are
reason one
A signalling problem between Perry Barr and Hamstead is causing disruption. Because of this, the following changes will apply:

Trains which usually run between Birmingham New Street and Walsall / Rugeley Trent Valley will only run between Birmingham New Street and Perry Barr
Buses are replacing trains between Walsall and Rugeley Trent Valley
Passengers travelling between Perry Barr and Walsall should use National Express West Midlands buses

A person has been hit by a train near Penkridge causing delays of up to 60 minutes to journeys between Stafford and Wolverhampton.

Alternative travel options

London Midland have ordered buses to run between Stafford and Wolverhampton.

Virgin Trains passengers may use CrossCountry and London Midland services on reasonable routes.

So once again Virgin are foisting their problem onto the other operators!

Why dont Virgin (with their bigger trains) use the available paths and carry everyone elses passengers and special stop orders?

If it was a fatality the chances are the route was blocked completely, and there isn't an electrified diversionary route. Strange there was no ticket acceptance on ATW via Shrewsbury though.

Virgin were telling people to use London Midland, whose trains are electric as well (and XC whose trains are not electric) but either way you wont get a Pendos worth of passengers on a 350 or Voyager so my point still stands.

Last time I checked, Birmingham to Rugby via Coventry and up the Trent Valley was electrified - a long one, admittedly, but definitely electrified...

Yes, but the trains they would be diverting are Euston to Scotland via Birmingham, so they'd hardly go all the way back from Birmingham to Rugby to run via the Trent Valley. I presume the ticket acceptance thing with LM and XC was to enable people to use XC to Tamworth or Nuneaton for LM to Crewe, or LM via Lichfield TV to Crewe.

I believe that last night's 9P42 19:43 Euston to Preston did indeed reverse at Birmingham New Street, after a long time at the station, before heading back down to Rugby, reversing there and travelling north towards Stafford, Crewe and Preston via Tamworth and Lichfield.

It didn't reverse at New St as such. It left going north and took the Witton loop. Reversed at Rugby so was in reverse formation at Preston, just under 2 hours late.
