How would you advise someone wanting to get a non folding (I.e standard) bicycle on a train from kings cross to Hampton wick area without cycling on roads on a Sunday afternoon?

Is it possible?

Best route / advice appreciated. Thanks

Not sure if possible, but couldn't you book your bike on the various services you plan to take?

As long as FCC are running through London to Wimbledon, then this is the route.

Assuming next Sunday, with great difficulty.

Assuming Sunday 13 April, it's quite easy. With a sample departure time of 1024:

St Pancras 1024
London Bridge 1040

London Bridge 1051
Waterloo East 1056

Waterloo 1118
Hampton Wick 1151

No, none of these services are reservable.

Cycle up to Barnsbury and take Overground to Richmond or cycle to Waterloo. It's downhill all the way from Kx!

You can get to Richmond or Wimbledon on the Underground -- see http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/bicycle-tube-map.pdf. (Indeed you could get -- the long way round -- to Embankment which is just across the river from Waterloo).

If the Kingston loop is closed, as it is next Sunday, perhaps you could go to Surbiton and walk -- it can't be much more than a mile and a half or so (less than it would be to walk KX-Waterloo). Or if it's cycling on roads that you want to avoid rather than cycling per se, you can get most of the way from Richmond to Kingston along the Thames towpath (perhaps a bit bumpy for a racing bike, but you don't need a specialist off-road bike).

Interesting thanks for your responses. I hadn't thought of the London overground route.

It is Sunday 30th March for the record.

181 beat me too it, but people often don't realise that you are allowed to take bikes on the Circle/Met/District/H&C lines outside of the Mon-Fri rush hours. Very useful for crossing London.

If changing at Embankment check the major escalator works that are restricting interchanges between tube and DIstrict/circle lines.

Jubilee Line between Canning Town and Stratford is also allowed, along with the DLR (except Bank), with the same timings as above.

Well yes, all the tube lines allow bicycles at certain times when above ground (and are shown on the map that 181 linked to above). But not in central London and therefore not useful to the OP, or anyone else trying to cross London with a bike.
