Would this route be valid: Walking to Bicester Town, thence to Oxford and Paddington?

I remember reading something in the easements section of the relevant docs which stated that this would not be allowed. I was at Bicester Village a few weeks back and any London bound passengers had to get the special bus that was laid on during the engineering works between Banbury and Denham so perhaps London via Bicester Town is not valid after all even during these works.

You are correct in saying that there is, however negative easements are not enforceable as, following the logical steps of reading the routeing guide, there is no way someone doing such a journey would come to be aware of a negative easement.

Bicester North to Paddington via Bicester Town is significantly longer in terms of miles, so it's not the shortest route. There is also no direct train so we need to look at mapped routes.

Bicester North has the routeing points Banbury, Greenford Und, London and Oxford.

Obviously London is London [sic] so as they both share common routeing points it's not a valid route as you are not following the shortest distance, so it's not valid.

The easement people have mentioned reads:

Journeys from or via London to Bicester North may not go via Bicester Town and journeys from or via London to Bicester Town may not go via Bicester North. This prohibition applies in both directions.

No comment on whether it is enforceable.

Where to begin!

Bicester North and Bicester Town are completely separate stations, on completely different routes, with fares set by different operators.

There is no "Bicester Stations" group for ticketing purposes.

With the exception of the Off-Peak Return, fares from Bicester Town are higher than those from Bicester North.

And as for buying a ticket from Kings Sutton, that'd be no more valid from Bicester Town than a ticket from High Wycombe would be, as Kings Sutton is between Oxford and Banbury, on a totally different route to Bicester Town!

It is to be hoped that this issue is resolved at the fares change before Evergreen 3 is finished, or it'll be a right pain for anyone travelling from Marylebone to Bicester if they miss a train!

Cheers,

Barry
