Bi-mode idea to creat discusdion.

With the current fashion for electro diesels how about this for an idea.
Strip a class 60 or class 92 and fit a modern ac traction package along with say an ex HST engine when they become spare.
2400 diesel up certainly more usefully than a class 88's.
May create some discussion.

Hasn't an 88 already got a "modern AC traction package" and the "biggest emission compliant diesel engine" that could be fitted in the remaining space while remaining in UK gauge?

That might be why your idea is completely impossible, but I expect people who are really interested in locos will add more reasoning...

Or as mentioned, just buy/use a Class 88.

A Class 92 has a modern traction package, and it still needs the entire bodyshell for all the equipment.

An HST Powercar is nearly as big as a conventional Loco, and a large proportion of its internal space is taken up by the engine.

So how are we meant to fit all of that into the already full bodyshell of a Class 60/92.

While the recycle and reuse culture is admirable, it has its bounds.
