Bham to St Ives

Hi.

I shall be travelling from new st to St Ives on Sat 14th June.

I will be getting the 07.12 from Brum which gets to Plymouth at 10.39....in which case I can get the 11.23 from Plymouth to St Erth.

My question is.....how easy is it to get 3 seats on the Plymouth to St Erth train.....does is start from Plymouth/Exeter/Bristol?

Alternatively I can get the same train from brum and get off at exeter if that is more likely to get seats on a train from there ?

So basically to recap....are there any positive reasons for me changing at exeter, rather than staying on to plymouth (such as a train starting its journey from exeter hence guaranteeing seats ?

The 1123 off Plymouth is the HST from Paddington, so could be busy. If you can get 0642 Brum to Paignton as far as Exeter, you change onto a St Erth train that starts there (goes to Penzance) then 20 min wait for St Ives.

You'd be much better off getting the 1123 from Plymouth, not the earlier 0935 from Exeter as suggested above. The 1123 is the 0730 from London and runs via Bristol. Whilst it can be busy sometimes there will be plenty of free seats after Plymouth. The 0935 from Exeter is a very busy service, it is only a 2-car 150. and tends to get filled up with people making local journeys in Cornwall. It's also often an uncomfortable 150/1.

You can always reserve seats on the 1123. A station should be able to sort this out for you.
