Bexhill to Horley

Thanks in advance for any help.

I am soon to start commuting from Bexhill to Horley. I would like to but monthly season tickets.

I wondered if there is any advantage in buying a ticket between Hastings and Horley instead so I can travel via Tonbridge/Redhill when there is disruption (there is a planned 4 day closure between Lewes and Haywards heath on 28/11).

I think that's probably not a bad idea. Price is the same and route: Edenbridge/Polegate from Hastings actually gives you more flexibility than route: Any Permitted from Bexhill ( Hastings fails the fare check as an origin for Bexhill-Gatwick.)

I have just been down the station for advice and the man said if I buy a Bexhill-Horley season then it is valid via Hastings/Tonbridge/Gatwick as it says ANY PERMITTED on it which did surprise me. However - not to besmirch the guy at the station - I find the expertise on here very useful.

I think I should take your advice anyway as there is no price difference.

That's interesting. It's certainly not a especially unreasonable route but as far as I can see Bexhill-Horley via Tonbridge is not a permitted route for route:Any Permitted ( all tickets from Bexhill to Horley have this routeing.) Journey planners don't offer this route.

Of course, it's possible I've missed something.

Thanks JB. I will buy the Hastings ticket as that will allow either route I think. I have more faith in you guys knowledge than the guy at the station.

Not meaning to be unkind about him but he did not seem confident.
If you don't mind - how do I check these things for myself so I do not have to trouble you guys in future?

I recommend buying odd period season tickets for a period of 5 working weeks (actually 1 month and a few days), from Monday to Friday, if you want to use weekly seasons, or maybe 6 weeks if you have booked leave coming up, as these can be bought for any period between 1 month and 1 year.

Id recommend buying a Appledore (Kent) to Horley Route "not Via London" season for the same price

 

[A Challenge]

As requested, here is some more information on odd-period season tickets. A season ticket can be bought for a period of a week, month, year, or any period between a month and a year.

If you buy a monthly to start on (for example) the 6th January, that will end on the 5th February (Wednesday), and you'd need another monthly to start on the 6th February. If, however, you were to get an odd period season ticket for 1 month and 2 days, this costs 7% more than the monthly ticket but allows you to make the next season start after after the weekend, on the 10th February.

You can also, change this if you have leave coming up. Let's say for example you are going away on holiday at the weekend after that, you can buy an odd period season ticket for 1 month and 9 days, meaning you don't need to buy weekly and daily tickets as it isn't worth buying a whole month.
