Was working near Bevois Yard (Southampton) yesterday & on my lunch break had a walk around there & on to St Denys Bridge, those who know of this yard know that it shut completely to rail traffic in the 90s, there were a number of scrapyards in there & small companies, these have all gone, 8’ metal fencing all around the site & a point from the mainline now facing towards the site but no track in to Bevois Yard, this is a new point as the track was relayed recently, before this the points & track had gone years ago. Has anyone any idea’s what they maybe doing with this site, poss reopen as a yard ?

It was rumoured to be reopening for some sort of rail traffic, possibly scrap, about two years ago. When the S&C was renewed at St Denys they included a route into Bevois Park as part of the job - so you'd think they must have been allowing for some future possibility.

Funnily enough there was some second hand rail panels being dropped at the rail entrance on Monday afternoon - of course that could just be scrap from the current Southampton Central works, but that would normally go to somewhere like Westbury for recycling.

Yes, Horseshoe Bridge it is. Not a particularly nice area of Southampton, I remember finding some discarded needles on that bridge once whilst out photting.

As for the Bevois Valley Yard, as SWT Passenger has mentioned, there was considerable speculation about a DRS Scrap flow from there a couple of years back but nothing ever came of it, much like the rumours about Fratton Container Yard.

At least Fratton had a flow, for about 20 minutes.

That area around Mt. Pleasant crossing is awful. Hooker central, druggies, not a nice place to work at night.

In the early-mid Noughties 00's (if thats what we call them) a large part of that Bevois yard was taken over by a recycling company, unfortunetly they were very poorly run and did'nt last very long but they did attempt to redevelope the site to their needs, i know a lot of track was dug up or just buried and they were responsible for the fencing that was made out of railway sleepers around the perimiter and seperated there land from the railways, at the time i was a tipper driver and often had cause to go in there, i believe when the recycling firm folded they left a very large pile of spoil/dirt there.

Talking about Fratton goods yard..... what happened to that? Im now a container haulier a recently went to Portsmouth to collect a box and take it up north, it made me wonder at the time why i was doing it and not the train?
