What do you think is the best Tube Line?
For me, it's the Victoria Line for the following reasons:
- The Victoria Line runs faster than other Tube Lines.
- The Victoria Line trains are one of the newest on the Tube.
Largely depends on what criteria one is using to judge best.
From a historical interest point of view, it has to be the Northern Line. Because of the pioneering nature of the early sections of line there are a number of interesting features which the other lines lack. Operationally it also runs reasonably efficiently, and tends to have a slightly better clientele than some other lines. Also the central section isn’t quite as consistently busy as elsewhere.
But most of the lines have their own quirks:
* The Bakerloo retains conventional signalling and has the oldest trains on the network
* The Central also has a very early section of line through the central area which also has some interesting features not found elsewhere. Then there’s the evocative “rural” sections out into Essex, and some other features of interest like the role of the Ilford tunnels during WW2. When everything works the Central is fast and efficient. The signalling system is also very satisfying from a driver’s point of view.
* The Victoria like is fast and efficient, and there are some spectacular engineering features to be found, though mainly out of public view.
