Have to confess that I hate Paddington. Might be because I use it so often, but the roof is black with diesel soot and the station is noisy and stinks of diesel. Inside the lawn the glass is filthy and there are pigeons walking over the tables and swooping down at people trying to eat some food.

I couldn't help but take a few quick snaps at Paddington on Monday, here's one of them:-

I enjoyed the smell of diesel and soot, perhaps because Euston is the terminal I naturally frequent, so I'm not used to this so much - OK well perhaps I do see some of it in Liverpool Lime Street anyway, but not on the same scale as Paddington!

But, I'm glad they never "did a Euston" at Paddington. Still retains that Victorian "sense of adventure" that railway stations should have IMHO. That is one very dominating roof-space. I mean you can't ignore it!

I'd been travelling on electric trains all day such that I'd become accustomed to it, so it still somehow took me by surprise when I heard the roar of the diesels in Paddington. Quite pleasant it was too.

It's certainly a very intensive service running along the GWML out of Paddington too isn't it, like all London terminals I guess. Won't forget the experience of standing at Southall station, while a train every two minutes or so belted through there at quite a pace sounding the horn.

I'd not travelled on the GWML since the '90s, so for me it was an enjoyable novelty.

That roof kinda reminds me of Glasgow Queen Street, for some reason, which gives me that adventure sense you spoke of.

Plus, it's all diesels in QS high level too. XD

I see what you mean, similarly , St Pancras has always reminded me of the old Glasgow St Enoch station. I think i will google and see if i can find any pics.

i really like Glasgow Central . Its big and spacious . Though Queen St has a nice roof it doset have any interesting stock . If only the west highland trains departed from central ha.

Large station: Piccadilly any day. It's rare for me to agree with a large majority, but the Satisfaction Survey results are accurate for me too.
Medium station: Westbury. Probably becuse of the great variety that runs through there (from the occasional P*cer to shunters via HSTs).
Small station: Looe. Not that I've used it! But it's pretty obvious from the A379 next to it that it has a lovely view.

St Enoch's roof was based off St Pancras'.

Of course, now there's just that horrid disaster in the place of the old station which should be wiped from existence and the station reopened, but I guess that's not going to happen anytime soon.
