Looe. Simply for the location and the beautiful view from its one platform 
I quite like sheffield midland...its recent renovation has made it appear cleaner, and they spruced up the original architecture, which looks great.

Looe is indeed a great place! I also think Penzance is well located, right by the sea and close tot he town!

Agree...i like penzance station, it seems well kept! I like Truro too. Although the last time i was there it was looking a little run down and in need of a lick of paint

I've only ever passed through Truro - never got off and haven;t been to Flamouth as a result! So I cna;t comemnt on the facilities, but it did look a bit run down last year, I especially noticed the state of the London bound platform.

Well when i lived in Cornwall...London wasnt the most popular place
The last time i travelled on the Falmouth branch was about ten years ago. As for the station, trust me you arent missing much these days, that too is now very run down.
On the subject of Cornish stations, another favourite of mine is St Erth.

Ah, so is the grotty state of the London platform a way to stop people leaving Cornwall! I think Cornwall is stunning, I love it down there! Haven't done the branch to St Ives yet either, but we're hoping to fit that in this July.
Back on topic, what makes a good station? For me, it's the facilties, location, architecture, being well maintained and the staff (if any!). My locla station is good in the morning when there are staff there, but in the late afternoon you cna sometimes ge tundesirables hanging around, like many stations I should think!
For London stations, Paddington, Brunel's masterpiece in London. Needs a bit of work, but it's still a wonderful station. Of course, you can still get to the end of Platform 1
Others, Newcastle Central, York, Temple Meads and Crewe for variety of service and good architecture. Added bonus at York, you can still get to the platforms. With smaller stations, I haven't been on the S&C for a while, but what I remember of Appleby was a very nice little station.

Glasgow Central for large, Inverness for medium , and Wemyss bay for small, though it was very grand in its day.
Yes true, although its not as nice as York, Piccadilly or Glasgow. It's probably my fourth favourite big station, and about the same overall.
Wait until they open out the front in a few weeks, the trees are now all in, and with the glass frontage it should be very attractive!

Unfortunately, some of the stations I think I would've admired are now closed down. e.g. Liverpool Exchange station (nice frontage at least) and Hadlow Road (on the Wirral).
As for stations still open, I like Marylebone station and Liverpool Lime Street too due to the improvements, it's much better than it used to be although they are still working on the main entrance. Manchester Piccadilly is also a great station, but I'm not mad on the through-platforms although I understand their position "out on a limb" is a matter of track layout.
For smaller stations, I visited Redland (Bristol) the other day and was very happy to see that it is was in better condition than it had been in previous years. I like that station, it's in a relatively nice tree-lined suburb too.
I like Birmingham Moor Street too, I want to visit again, I like the period feel of it and of course is very handy for New Street. Delamere on the Mid-Cheshire line is another one I like.
I also find that although most people seem to strongly dislike the dingy, moss-covered Green Lane in Birkenhead, I actually like it (hence my username).
Likewise, although I totally agree with the comments in the "worst stations" thread regarding the travesty of the rebuilt Euston, I've got to admit that it works well on a functional level, although I can't of course find it aesthetically pleasing.

Since the arrival of W/S, what was a filthy/rotting Wrexham General, is transformed into a station to be proud of using.
with probably the best buffet of any station in Wales.

Big station: Edinburgh Waverly, Very nice station and laid out.
Medium size: Wolverhampton, yes bit blockly but nice and open
Also for Medium Size: Birmingham Moor Street. Clean open and very nice GWR themeing to the station
Small Stations. Hmm tough. Bathgate is ok, but the new station will be better, have to say Kidderminster as well.

I love Glasgow Central, Edinburgh and Newcastle. Something almost magical about all three stations! Despite what a lot of people say, I'm personally not a fan of Manchester Picc (although I've only visited once).
I also think that Partick in Glasgow is very good, and the improvement is phenomenal! However, the station lacks toilets.
One of my favourite stations is Coatbridge Central. Not because of it's fantastic service (because it doesn't have a fantastic service), not because the staff are good (because there are no staff), not because of its excellent facilities (because there are none). But, walking through the subway, there's a nostalgic feel to the place. It was clearly important, grand, and extremely useful in its day. Now, it's relegated to an hourly Motherwell-Cumbernauld service, most of its glory taken over by the North Clyde and Whifflet lines.

I agree wholeheartedly with what you say about coatbridge central, it really does retain a little something or other from days gone by as a station of some importance.

True it is quite bad and the parking. But im going by ease to get the train i get. Pretty much walk in and wait to the left.
