Best station sounds

What do you think is the best station announcement sound? I love the ones at Lille-Europe, Disneyland Paris and on the TGV network as a result, if I'm correct.

Seriously though, I like hearing the manual announcements at New St (which sometimes happens) and Wolves for Pwllheli trains, but only those who brave reading out every stop.

It always used to be the 'tick...tick...tick...' from the big NSE digital clocks.
Now, nothing really comes to mind.

Do you mean the little chime before the announcement? There are two chimes on the UK network that I know of.

It does. I'm presuming that the song was a marketing thing, along with the chime.

Yes, it's the "company song" and you'd be surprised how many firms and organisations have one abroad -i t appears it's not a very British thing to have!

One of the most jolly chimes I have heard is one of DB Regio's chimes (first five seconds).

I like the old NSE announcements which were still at Bishops Stortford a few weeks ago (I wonder if Greater Anglia have plans to replace them). Manual announcements work well at smaller stations, but at larger stations with overall roofs, such as Newcastle, they echo so much it's impossible to hear what is being said.

Used to be a Valenta taking power or even reducing power - spooling turbo - group cooler fan.

Worst sound is without doubt the female auto voice in Cornwall - it's edited extremely badly.....to the extent that someone who hated railways could have recorded a girl who also hated railways on a cheap phone and without any care at all cut out bits of audio which were cued with no regard to intonation or pronunciation.

Lostwithiel comes out as 'Lost whistle'..St Germans comes out as Saaaint JERmanz.

I'm sure she's the same girl who did a very mangled travel guide to Cornwall in which Gyllingvase beach at Falmouth is called GillingVassEEE - it's off the scale - like calling Liverpool LYVERpool.

I love the little tune before SNCF Announcements, had a good time listening to them on holiday, which reminds me Id like to visit France soon again. much better than the tones over here, or lack thereof at cardiff central, where most times they just yell down the Mic lol

The Yamanote Line in Tokyo has the best sounds in my opinion.

Each JR line has a tune that is played before the train departs. With the Yamanote Line - a different variation depending on the direction of travel (clockwise or anti-clockwise - the Yamanote line is an orbital line around the city above ground).

My personal favourite is played at Ebisu station, but for illustratory purposes, heres a video of the different tunes played at Shinagawa station.

Wish they had something like that over here... (although you'd get mixed up with the ice cream van )

Some LU stations used to use a little two-tone chime, which I thought was rather effective.

I can't remember if its the pre announcement in Hungary or the Czech Republic that has an interesting tune.
