Best Sounding EMU?

For me it is either the 365 or the 319. If we are allowing internationally then the MS61 (Paris) beats all of them though.

Class 455, despite everything else being so, so wrong about them.

Class 365 for childhood nostalgia, though my other contenders are the Class 323, ADTranz German suburban EMUs or the Class 319 sound at St Pancras lower level.

Do 317/ 319/320/321 all sound similar ? If so one of them. How about 313 and 315s?

So difficult to find an MS61 now but I was happy to ride the Z6400s still in service on line L [emoji1]

Southern Region slammers easily.

The low drone of the motors together with the compressor sounds of the electro pneumatic brakes (not to mention the thud of doors slamming).

For me, it's the 319s and PEP stock. I think both sound great, especially in tunnels. Special mention to the 323s as well, I'll miss those when they head to pastures new in a couple of years' time. On the flip side, I'm looking forward to hearing what the 331s sound like.

Agreed, followed closely the the Z6400s ( which have a couple of years left ).

Within the UK, the old SUB / EPB types for 3rd rail units and the 304s for overhead units.

Beat me to it.

For me, it's 303s, all PEP stock (313s-315s & 507s-508s), all Mk3-based EMU stock (318s, 319s/325s & 442s in particular), 323s, 334s & 365s.

If we're allowing native Tube/Metro stock, then it's the A60/62 Stock, 1972 Mk2 Stock, 1992 Stock, 1996 Stock and the Glasgow Subway 1980 Stock for me.

That's because, very sadly, all MS61s have now been withdrawn.:cry:

The Z6400s do make a fantastic noise though.

Class 323s, 365s and 350/332s for me in the UK - over in Europe I do like the Siemens Taurus sound - quite unusual sounding and rapid in terms of acceleration!

SWTs 444s and 450s, and that squeak they have as they pull away or into a station. I think the OHLE Desiros make the same, or a similar, noise, so it's obviously a Desiro thing!

Same as locos for me, really - anything modern. I have a preference for the Electrostar in the UK and the MI 09 in France.

I recall that, on one of the last evening runs of the CO/CPs, some sound recordists lifted up a floor hatch in a car (in normal service near High Street Kensington!) and stuck a mike down - that was a special sound.

Class 319, I always like to sit in the motor coach under the pantograph as it's nice and cosy what with the lowered ceiling. Speeding through Redhill and Quarry tunnels was sheer bliss, especially when the windows were open!

Theres not much like sitting under a pantograph on a 319/321 while doing 90mph+! 315s and Networkers (non hitachi) will always have to top spot for me. As for new stock, Desiros over Electrostars any day.

Class 455, despite everything else being so, so wrong about them.

Class 455 with the new AC motors sound a bit tasty.

Braking....taking power...it's got the lot.
