Best Railway Station

Looe is pleasant due to its surroundings, Barnstaple is my fav though.

Leeds, Hebden Bridge, Hull, Paddington, Manchester Victoria, Rugby, Carlisle, Birmingham Moor St, Bristol Temple Meads, Penzance are the best for me.

The worst are Manchester Piccadilly and St Pancras - I cannot stand being on either fr extensive (1/2 hour +) lengths of time!

It feels more like an airport terminal than a railway station. St Pancras is just awful, really cannot stand it.

Parbold for me. I could sit on that platform all day in the Summer watching everything go by over the level crossing next to the Grad 2 box. The town of parbold is also very nice

It has no character for me. Plus the waiting at the top of the stairs to the through platforms really puts the nail in the coffin

Newcastle and York for me, there's something about these two historic stations that literally scream trains and railway architecture from a past time with nice additional 'current' amenities! IMO!

I'd rather be at Manchester Piccadilly than Victoria, or equally St Pancras rather than Euston! Man Vic could be a lovely station but the poor condition and dodgy characters hanging around are a bit of a downside!

St. Pancras is a beautiful fusion of old and new, so much character with such modern facilities. A real flagship large station, as much as I like stations similar to York, for character, practicality and modernity I'd rather be at St. Pancras.

If there's one I don't like its Leeds - cold, mundane and characterless.

Why??

Mainly that I found the layout confusing and not very well signed, Took me a while to find the centre for example. I suspect this is partly down to me not knowig the station layout at all as I think some people could find Edinburgh Waverley confusing first time round. Also, Although it is a big station, the area around the barriers seemed quite cramped and some of the staff I found to be quite rude/unhelpful.

On the other hand Manchester Piccadilly was a delight. Simple, clean,open, spacious, good facilities.

For me most stations are alright, I get to see trains, I'm happy!
But my favourites would be down to personal memories and such like.
Therefore, after leaving the area, any return to London Victoria and East Croydon makes me happy. Victoria is also the only Termini with a Subway. Massive bonus. I also like Upper Warlingham as again I have friends in the area and its quite quaint.
I also like the nature of Portsmouth Harbour as well, right by the sea, and I had plenty of time to sit and watch the trains when I was there. Very plesant indeed!

I second this!

I often travel through Piccadilly and on the whole I find it a lovely place to be...wish there were a few more seats about though...if I want to sit anywhere it usually has to be outside M&S. Likewise St Pancras is a great station - even it has become a mini shopping centre, it is a pleasant place to be.

A few others I would add from experience (however brief):
Great Malvern - architecturally I quite liked my time there, even though it appears to be in the middle of nowhere!
Dewsbury - Wellington Road side at least - its generally in good condition, has a bit of history to it and architecturally doesn't look too bad either IMO

I don't live there but I know it isn't the most convenient site for a station being nearly 2 miles from the town centre - the services are average with seemingly 'random' times to london. It does have a nice little café though.

birmingham moore street agree with. I do like bath spa as well. but prob my favourite station is Carlisle. Plenty of spotting, arhetecture is not too bad and the town is nice outside
