I'd say any Thames Turbo, 313s, 315s and all Desiros for me. I love the Desiros especially as they're pulling away, and when 313s and 315s are really giving it the beans at such a high speed.
Unpopular opinion, but it's always been the Class 153s for me. Always will be
Class 185 (I love the sound of the Cummins QSK19)
Surely the best sound is derived from a second world war designed motor torpedo boat engine crammed into a metal box on wheel!
Why not the Class 22xs or Class 180 then?
I have two answers for that. First of all despite that the 180/185/220/221/222 etc all use the Cummins QSK19. I prefer the Class 185 as in my opinion, is sounds more throaty to meWhy not the Class 22xs or Class 180 then?
.
. But the Class 185 is my favourite because of its throaty sound it makes possibly due to the "stack" exhaust? You've heard a spaceship then?I also like electric sounds - the spaceship noise of the 321s and 465s bring back happy memories of holidays in London when they were new.
But lets be honest, when you get to hear a Deltic at full pelt, nothing else diesel can ever sound so perfect.
