Best Bus station/Interchange

As there is a thread about the worst bus stations and interchanges, I thought I would start one dedicated to the better bus stations.

Most new West Yorkshire bus stations are nicely designed and constructed, and have real time information at them.

South Yorkshire also have very good bus stations - Doncaster and Rotherham come to mind.

Warrington has a very good bus station and Warrington has live running information throughout the town - it helps when the main operator is owned by council.

Manchester Chorlton Street is good, although it's a coach station and Shudehill looked very good - although I've only alighted buses there, never waited around for one.

Ones like Huddersfield and Pontefract are good but they don't stand out as exceptional, possibly due to some towns and cities having start of the art facilities.

Warrington has a very good bus station and Warrington has live running information throughout the town - it helps when the main operator is owned by council.

I definitely agree with Warrington. I also think that Airport (Manchester) and Hyde are pretty sound.

Gateshead Interchange & The MetroCentre have always had a nice look for me!

The new one in Eldon Square is very nice, a much better replacement for the underground one that used to be there (anyone old enough will remember the one I mean).

Doncaster is very good - half way between the Train Station and the main Shopping Centre, ideal location, fairly bright (despite being underneath the shops etc).

Rotherham is okay from a passenger point of view, but badly laid out for buses (basically one long island, which causes some problems).

Sheffield was a well laid out bus station, but reduced demand (fewer "long distance" bus services, plus more "local" services avoiding that part of town) mean that its not suited to its current needs. It also suffers from being located in a part of town with nothing else there. But, from a passenger perspective, its nice internally.

I've always like Buchanan in Glasgow, which seems to cope with the volumes pretty well.

I like Middlesbrough, Metrocentre, Eldon Square and Gateshead...

I remember the old Underground Eldon Square bus station, to get from one side to the other you had to go back into the Shopping complex and come down the other side, you werent supposed to cross the bus station, and I was always getting wrong for it

I'm most disappointed with the changes to the Real Time system at Keighley.

Instead of sorting by time they now sort by route - most awkward if in a hurry as my buses are 25, 66, 78A, 712, 762, 765, 903 so can be just about anywhere on the board.

Time to drop them a note, I think.

It must be good if the train/bus service you are planning to catch is cancelled and it's only hourly. At some stations you can be more than a mile away from the main shopping centre.

Warrington bus station is also incorporated in to the shopping centre. However, unlike Doncaster there isn't a rail station you can walk straight in to. Warrington Central isn't far away but it's not right next to it.

Chorlton Street, Piccadilly and Shudehill in Manchester are all very good interchanges.

I agree that Buchanan bus stn in Glasgow does its job unusually well-especially for such a big city terminus. Pity it's not a bit nearer Central station.

Belfast Queen Victoria Street/Buscentre is good too. And Coleraine's bus-rail interchange puts those of countless bigger towns to shame.

And some of the TfL bus stations built from the 80s on (e.g. Harrow on the Hill, Edgware), while not always attractive, are effective and user-friendly

Hull Paragon is far and away the best interchange I've seen. It even has a trainshed.

It make the whole bus/train connection experience almost pleasurable.

Nottinghamshire County Council have embarked on a project to improve the county's bus stations.

The bus station in Retford is lovely. It was opened a few years ago, complete with heated waiting area, toilets and a staffed information office. As I understand it there are similar plans to replaced the bus station at Mansfield with a similar (larger) station.

The new bus station in Newark is about to open - there are some reservations about its size and facilities, especially given that it's much smaller than Retford but is designed to handle a similar number of bus services.

I would actually say... Wolverhampton.

Well, if all the buses actually went into it. It is very nice, spacious, works well, good location, etc. Just uh, 22 of the city's 55 bus routes don't go into it because they have to pay to use it.

The re-built bus stations in West Yorkshire are first class & how modern bus stations should be built, i particularly like Huddersfields with the separate alighting/boarding points, & not far from the Rail Station. Burnley now has a good bus station
