Was there today and met contractor, pre works removing trees to start soon to enable 2 sidings to cater for 24 Wagons. Shale to go to Cement works and power stations. 8-9 years work involved to level one of Wrexhams historic landmarks.

Was there today and met contractor, pre works removing trees to start soon to enable 2 sidings to cater for 24 Wagons. Shale to go to Cement works and power stations. 8-9 years work involved to level one of Wrexhams historic landmarks.

I have lost internet since last Friday due to ice bringing down the lines & connected again this afternoon,I know questions have been asked when the contractor will commence work by Wrexham Council, first i have heard of this work, I know nothing has occurred for two years since the WG Ruling.

I have been following this matter since a forum member from the Wrexham area first brought up this matter early in 2011. During that period, there were postings made about the quality of the removed spoilage and the uses it could be put to. Can anyone give any definite rail-related information yet on this matter and who will be the processor of the material.

I also have my ear to the ground,I also have heard stories of various projects,which include the new seafront work in the Wirral/Merseyside area,if there is a move to start up, I hope its not just a bit of infrastructural work due to pressure from WCBC & WG who are asking what's going on,If you recall Wrexhams Planning was overruled by WG Inspectors & this ruling has a time limit to start work.

Get your backsides down there and have a look for yourselves!

Had a look at 3.30p.m. Demolition portacabin,several trees felled,otherwise no sign of life, site chained up. Area being cleared is next to Manwebs sub station.
No sign of security.Excellent views from the footpath within feet of the work which is by to the line. I note the old siding entrance to the pit was on the other side of the road.

Bob,
New sidings are to go where that footpath is! 1 lead off DN side then splits to 2 sidings. Contractors can't take out trees next to line until a rep from NR is on site with them. Cut trees are also going to Kronospan factory.

That seems a very good idea....and not too far to send them from the site.

Thanks, I take it the contractor will have apply for a footpath diversion order with Wrexham Council, I know this as not been applied for yet.Ill let you know when it occurs,SWMBO is a member of Wrexham Local Access Forum & gets copies of all the applications for footpath diversions,the local LAF is a statutory body for consultation.

No doubt ill see you up there one day, I usually have a Jack Russell in toe

Always the case TDK, those who never use the footpath come to mind,its always an easy delaying tactic.

In my mind good riddance to an eyesaw.

Presumably the tip (being an old one) , will have some coal mixed in with the waste - making it suitable for cement manufacture.

Back in the day , pre nationalisation , miners were paid for large lump coal only - so the smaller material was often tipped with the shale/ slag -explaining how many old tips have been "recycled" and sieved.

correct it is old, all the others have gone,a near by tip hafod was taken down during the miners strike for coal recycle.

Now if I had known The Rugby Express(WAG stock & two 57s) was running via Wrexham last Sunday I would have taken photos from Bersham Tip & put them up.

Indeed it is http://www.wrexham.gov.uk/english/leisure_tourism/boncyrhafod.htm with excellent views of the railway,the footpath we mention runs from Bersham Tip to this park.

It is on the East side of the railway, some spoil came from the Vauxhall Pit now an industrial estate in Johnstown.
It is only half a mile from Erddig.
