Berney Arms

I'm looking to pay a visit to Berney Arms on a weekend this summer and have found very reasonable Advance fares for this trip (departing 09:30, arriving 12:03)

Hypothetically, if the first leg into Norwich was sufficiently delayed that the connection couldn't be made (leaving me "stranded" :roll: in Norwich at around midday), what would GA's responsibility be, given that:

• The station is inaccessible by road
• The next Berney Arms departure isn't until the following day

Replacement boat service along the River Yare?

They could authorise you to get the 1340 to Great Yarmouth and then the 1517 back, arriving Berney Arms just a little late at 1524 (times assuming Mon-Fri).

That wasn't when you were thinking of leaving is it?

Note that Berney Arms is one of those rare stations where the Sunday service is better than Saturdays; there're two later trains via BYA to Great Yarmouth after the 1203 arrival.

I had a similar potential problem some years ago. I had an Anglia Rover and had walked to Berney Arms earlier in the day. The last train was late and so I used teh intercom there and asked where it was.
On being told there was a signal fault that had been going on all day and they weren't sure if a train would run and I would have to walk if they didn't run the train. I stated I had a valid ticket and what were they going to do if the train didn't run, I was told I couldn't have as no trains had run that day. I commented on the rover I held and there was an umming and ahhhring and I was then told teh fault had been rectified and teh train would be 15 late.
I hasten to add that I do not think the train ran because of me and I was expecting to be told to walk to Halvergate where they would have supplied a taxi if I was lucky.

In practice: the train was held for me when this happened - it wasn't worth it though as it had been snowing for a week or so before so Berney was *freezing*! :P

That's probably likely - forgot that later services run the other direction as well

As the 1st Advance is only £13 (£8 standard), is it worth the extra fiver for GA's first class offering London-Norwich?

I think it is, just about. You get a few basic free refreshments which are potentially worth a couple of quid, and I found the WiFi (free only in 1st) very useful for the two-hour journey.

£2.50 an hour for a big seat, wi-fi, tea and biccies, I'd say so.

They didn't hand out when I was on there, you had to show your ticket at teh buffet and they gave you the stuff.
