I’m heading to Berlin for a long weekend. Obviously no where near long enough for such a city, but I’ve been various times before. Is there any transport related events to look out for? I often only find out about such things after visiting a place!
Knowing Berlin fairly well, I know of many of the transport highlights already such as:
- The North-South S-Bahn line, esp. Nordbahnhof.
- Stadtbahn viaduct
- Historic bus route 218
- Outer Berlin tramways. Especially the Woltersdorf system - I’m aware the 1950s stock should still be running this weekend, with imminent replacement by the new stock - but I said goodbye to them back in May so not hugely fussed if I don’t get there again.
- Abandoned Siemensbahn line.
- New extension on the U5
- Further out, there are the Tatras still running on the Potsdam, Brandenburg and Frankfurt (Oder) networks, as well as trolleybuses at Eberswalde.
But are there any special running days or events over the weekend, bus tram or rail related? These often seem harder to find out about unless you’re in the enthusiast community.
Also, is there anything to look out for before it goes (e.g Woltersdorf trams) or anything newly opened or operating? Or some interesting rail lines, especially branch lines?
